Letters to Santa
Twenty kids in the Santa Maria de Toris Alburgue had some Christmas presents this year due to the efforts of members of the La Paz Cruising Community and the Bahia de La Paz Rotary Club. The kids wrote “Letters to Santa”, and the Rotary Club passed the letters out to generous cruisers, who bought the kids their presents, wrapped them and turned them back into the Rotary Club, who delivered them to the kids during their school Christmas program.
A brief word about Albergues: Kids from 5 to 14 years old from widely spread ranching families come to these rural boarding schools. It’s usually too far to go home at night, so they live in the dormitories there so they can go to school. Money is in short supply in these areas, as sometimes one of the kids will mention in his or her letter to Santa. Often, we are the only source of Christmas presents for these kids.
The Bahia de La Paz Rotary Club collected and fulfilled over 120 “Letters to Santa” from three alburgues this year. What follows are the pictures of the 20 kids helped by the local cruisers.
